Orphan Train Riders

What do think it would be like to be 7 years old and have your parents leave you either by abandonment or death; have someone put you on a train and travel 500 miles to a place you hadn't even heard of; then be chosen by someone else on the steps of the county court house to be your parent like you were a show calf at the county fair? Imagine being separated from your brothers and your sisters. Imagine being a 10 year old boy and being chosen by a farm family to become cheap labor. If you can get this in your mind, you may begin to understand what it was like to be an orphan train rider.
