Last Day

Today is the last day of school for Katy ISD. Teachers must go back on Monday. The last day of school is one of those days that is so exciting for kids. I remember the feeling of freedom.

My freedom was short lived since I worked for my dad's cattle trucking business every summer from the time I was about 13. I did get off for summer camps. I was probably one of the few kids that paid for their own summer camp. Most of the money came from cleaning out cattle trailers. When I was 16 I worked on a ranch in Montana. The owner of the ranch's brother had worked for my dad. It was one of the best summer's of my life. If I had my way that summer, I would probably have spent my life as a cowboy in Montana. However, my folks made me come home.

What do you remember about your last day of school and your summers as a kid?
