Katy High School Football

Friday Night Lights does not come remotely come close to getting the true picture of Texas High School Football, especially in the 5A classification. The schools with "programs" are disciplined, well coached, and require intelligent players to figure out the schemes, formations, and game plans. Strength, speed, and coaching are a necessity if a team gets deep into the playoffs.

Monday Night Video

Katy makes at least three videos for every game. Two from the end zone, and one from the press box area. The films are computerized, analyzed, strategyzed, and graded. Monday night is when the parents/fans get to see what actually happened. The plays are run forward and backwards. Football terminology flies out of the mouth of the offensive and defensive coordinators. The head coach gives the wrap up and takes questions. If you are a high school football fan, "it doesn't get any better than this."

Cy Falls Video

Last night we saw the video of our loss to Cy Falls. We did not play to the level that we have been accustomed to. They were fast, big, strong and played extremely hard. One of the things the video also showed is that on three of their four touchdowns, there was an uncalled serious penalty. The referees apparently had the "let them play" philosophy, which hurt us more than them. We do our best to stay within the rules of the game. Cy Falls really didn't care.

It is my opinion that poor officiating is what made the difference in winning or losing this game. If we would have played our best game, we would have overcome it. Our team has been coached to believe that we may need to overcome many things, including an official who forgot to bring his yellow flag. Because we didn't play our "A" game, we will not be getting a State Championship for Christmas this year.

By the way, next year should be one of our best ever!

Hey man. My son-in-law is helping me figure how to post this message. He happens to be a Cy Falls grad, otherwise though he's a pretty good guy. Anyway, email me at rallanstanford@gmail.com.

I'm surprised by your sour grapes posting about Cy Falls not caring about playing within the rules of the game.

Cy Falls has done exactly that all year.

Officiating... I saw the game film as well and saw calls on both sides that were blown and bad calls made.

SCOREBOARD DUDE!

Last year your team played better and beat us. We had nothing but positive things to say about Katy. Why can't you just do the same and not blame others for Katy's shortcomings this year.

Katy has been a class organization for many years and Cy Falls is striving to achieve the level of success that Katy has... but if you are an example of Katy's arrogance, I want no part of that.

Jim,

Thanks for your comments. I guess partisian perception is a powerful indicator of how one analyzes a game.

The fact was that Katy made more mistakes in this game than any of our other games. We also played our toughest opponnent. Katy fans were much more discouraged about the way we played than the officiating. The fourth down spot was the most significant mistake by officials that went against Katy. Would we have scored? Probably, but there is no guarantee.

Cy Falls has a very good team, and there is no reason why they should not win state if they play like they played us.

I do not have sour grapes, and yes the score board did tell the story. We had an opportunity to score and tie the game at the end and we blew it.

Katy has always had problems with quarterbacks like the one at Cy Falls.

I have had one who played football and graduated in 2002, and another son that will be a senior on the varsity next year. I am far from arrogant about Katy Football. However, I am well informed since I have been going to games for 14 years and film nights (plays are run backwards and forwards, stopped, so that coaches can point out mistakes) for about 10. I also played high school football. I am fully aware of when we get beat by a better team as oppossed to a very good team that beat us because we played poorly. That does not take anything away from Cy Falls. They played very poorly against Jersey Village and that is why they got beat. In other words the best team did not win that game. I don't know about the other two that Cy Falls lost during the regular season.

Cy Falls played much better than Katy did. That is why we lost.

Cy Falls should be very proud of what they accomplished this season. Beat Cedar Hill! Thank you so much for leaving a comment and I hope you understand where I am coming from.
