Contragulations to Taylor Hicks for winning American Idol! Today, he has one proud papa and mama. It was a beautiful site to see his father beaming, with tears streaming down his face, because he was so proud of his son. Fatherlove is beyond words!
Why did Taylor win? How was Taylor able to overcome Simon's no vote and negative comments early in the competition? Taylor has more of something more than anyone else -- authenticity! Taylor "did not compromise," as they say in the business. His voice has some Joe Cocker and Bob Seger qualities, yet is unique. His syle of dance and movements is unique.
American Idol's finale was absolutely incredible. This was definitely their best show and year! Why do you think Taylor won?

I really think they could have picked a better song for his 1st release....but I did find myself singing it as I was getting ready for bed last night.
I agree Donna. Out of the songs that Taylor had to choose from, he probably picked out the best one. I think this song had too much of a commercial, top forty sound to it. Taylor's success will not come from songs like this, but songs go to the core of who he is.
I think he won because he truly loves to perform. He flashed that smile and always, always looked like he was enjoying what he did. You could see his true friendship with the other contestants and his humility at accepting criticism and receiving votes...
And beyond that he is just a great entertainer!!
Prediction: Taylor will be bigger than any other American Idol winner or runner-up!!!!
I love the song! I also think Taylor is an ace performer. He won because he loves what he does, not to mention that he kept getting the votes...from day one.
He reminded me allot of Bryan Kennedy from Northern Ireland who this year sang for Ireland in the Eurovision Contest, but only in appearance.
