Speaking of Speaking

Speaking is my passion. Thursday evening, I had the opportunity to speak to a group of Dads at the Mission Bend Christian School about effective fathering. The presentation is from material provided by the National Center for Fathering. I am certified by NCF to present several of their seminars. The framework for this speech was the ICANs of fathering - Involvement, Consistency, Awareness, and Nurturing. NCF encourages the speakers to interject their own stories, illustrations, and examples.

One of the joys of speaking is watching the eyes and body language of the audience. I try to speak without notes as much as possible so I can get a feel for what is going on in the mind of the listeners. I have spoken a few times in auditoriums in which the lights on the stage were so blinding that you couldn't see beyond the first row. This makes it difficult to get a read on how I am doing until the message is over.

One of my goals is to increase the opportunities I have to speak. Eric Lydell, in the movie Chariots of Fire, said to his sister, "When I run, I feel God's pleasure." I can relate to this sentiment. When I speak (preach), I feel God's pleasure.

Forgive me, but I was reading this quickly and I misread it.

Think how relieved I was to realize you didn't say, "Spanking turns me on."

Phew.

Nancy, after reading your comment I changed the first line from "turns me on" to "passion." This sounds more dignified and I didn't want readers to get the wrong idea, although I do enjoy messing with your mind.
