Spending the Night with Rita

Rita's affect has arrived in Katy. Winds are now blowing about 40-50 miles per hour. In the next few hours, winds in our area should reach 75. The bands are here. We will probably be up all night. I will keep you posted by commenting on this blog throughout the night, as long as we have power.

God bless the folks to the east of us. Beaumont is getting hit very hard right now.

"God is my refuge and strength, and ever present help in times of a storm."

The strong winds did not last very long. It is windy, but apparently the storm is moving more to the east. A few days ago we were projected to have the eye of the storm come over us. Now it is probably 150 miles to the east of us. In a strange way, this is sort of disappointing.

David, we are all going to pretend that you didn't say that.

We continue to be on the very edge of Rita. Everything to the west of us is getting hit pretty hard, especially east of I-45, which is about 30 miles from Katy.

My disappointment may be "survivors guilt." I prepared for battle, and we are not seeing much action. (analysis welcomed) I know this feeling will go away. I am really thankful that our area has been spared.

I have a sister that lives in Humble which is about 45 miles from Katy to the northeast. She probably has some minor damage and may be without electricity. Hopefully I will find out later in the day.

How was your sister?

Just a quick glance at your subtitles, "Spending the Night with Rita" and saying you "missed out on the action" might not be a case of survivor's guilt, but nothing that can't be remedied when Phyllis returns!

My sister lost her electricity until today. It was a very unusual feeling to be expecting a severe storm for over a week, only to have wind and a little rain. However, we are thankful.
