Jesus as Father

My Bible is called The Knowing Jesus Study Bible: A one-year study of Jesus in every book of the Bible. It has cool pictures throughout which has a verse superimposed related to Jesus. This morning I opened it up to this verse on a picture of a tree branch with a desert background: He will be called wonderful counselor, mighty God, everlasting father, prince of peace. --Isaiah 9:6

I have read this verse hundreds of times, but for some reason never connected with Jesus being called "everlasting father." In the familial sense, I guess my mind has always been programmed to think of Jesus as a brother. Jesus as Father -- interesting. Right now I do not want to do a study of Trinitarian theology, or see if there are other places in the Bible where Jesus is referred to as Father. I want to think about Jesus as my Father.

What would happen if I read through the gospels (first four books of the New Testament) with this in mind?

I like the sound of that study-Bible. I think I will check that out for next year.

Very interesting thoughts.

I have never heard of that study Bible either--it sounds wonderful.

I am fairly Trinitarian (but really don't care if you are). So, I pretty much blend the personalities of God, Son, Holy Spirit--so I haven't really thought of Jesus as Everlasting Father I suppose--but it seems very scriptural.

What I love about God is He does express Himself in familial terms--not a one of us has perfect physical families, but we do have the perfect spiritual Father.

Whether you think of that perfect Father as Jesus or God or both--to me that is extremely comforting for all kinds of reasons!

I like the everlasting part of it. We all long for PERMANENT affection and want to cling to our earthly friends and family who aren't going to be there forever...

But everlasting father sounds good.

Everlasting Father...I like it!

I too may have to check out that Bible. I am pretty attached to my Greek key study Bible.
