Surprised by Jesus

Jesus surprised people. Children flocked to him. As a 30 something man, he enjoyed the company of children. This surprised people. Jesus was probably the first Child Advocate.

Jesus surprised people. He liked women. Jesus was often in the company of women. Didn't matter if they were divorced, widowed, living with someone. He even allowed a woman to give him a massage, with oil. He was even thinking about and caring for a special woman (mom) in his life when he was dying.

Jesus surprised people. He welcomed the poor and wasn't intimidated by the rich and powerful. He enjoyed the company of the rich as well as the poor folks. Jesus hung around the down and out as well as met with powerful leaders on their terms.

Jesus surprised people. He was an incredible story teller. Jesus had multitudes on the edge of their rocks, waiting for his next word. Jesus also had a way with fiction. He was a master at the short story with endings that were inspirational beyond words or puzzling beyond understanding.

Jesus surprised people. He didn't mind getting his hands dirty. He would often use dirt. He would write in it or even make mud balls with his own spit. Believe it or not, he even put a mud ball in someone's eye once.

Jesus surprised people. He had a great relationship with his Father. He thought more about his Father, than anyone else in his life. Everything he did was about pleasing his Father.

Jesus still surprises people. Especially when they read about him for the first time. The fourth book in the New Testament, part of the Bible, is the book of John. If you want to be surprised by Jesus, start there. The second book in the New Testament is Luke. That would be good to read after John. Did you know that the Bible was online? --(http://www.ibs.org/niv/passagesearch.php)

What surprises you about Jesus?

The surprising thing about Jesus to me is how devisive yet unifying he is. On one hand, his very name infuriates people. But on the other, those of radically different ethinicities, political persuasions, and ideologies can be bound together tighter than family just because they wear his name: Christian.
