Loving Children

Loving children should come as naturally as breathing. We should see them as gifts from God. Do you love your children?

A tragedy befell the community of Abilene, Texas last Sunday afternoon. A youth group was coming back from attending an event in Arlington. Something happened and the suburban overturned. One child died, six other children and one adult female were seriously injured. All were members of the Highland Church of Christ.

My heart breaks for the family who lost their child. I have not lost a child, however, I know the pain of losing a father and a mother when I was young. The pain of losing someone dear to our hearts has a weight to it. I imagine this weight attaches itself to our hearts. If pain does weigh, the pain of losing a child is the heaviest. Some peoples hearts are stronger than others, so they are able to bear more weight. This doesn't mean that they love less, it just means that they have a stronger heart.

My heart also breaks for the driver. Her body is bruised and battered, and I suppose her heart is broken. My prayer is that a loving community will always, without ever forgetting, lift her and her family up.

Highland Church of Christ is a community of love that attracts loving people and people who need love. The heart of their church is strong, and it can handle the weight of much pain. It is because their heart is the heart of Christ.

"For God so love the [children of the] world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him, should not perish, but have eternal life." John 3:16
