This year has not been a good year for me and mowers. My good mower's axle broke the first of the year. It was determined that it would cost about $100.00 to fix and the mower was too old and not worth the expense. I decided to buy a used mower at a garage sale for $35.00. "It just hasn't been used in awhile, but I think with a new spark plug, it will run fine." Big mistake, but I went ahead and bought it. By the way, I have had tremendous success with vacuum cleaners. Anyway, I am on my second used mower, and even by taking it to a repair shop, it still doesn't run. It ran beautifully when I first got it, for two mowings. The repair guy told me it really needed a new carburetor. Well, I have already spent $70.00 on this mower. Bottom line, I should have bought a new mower at the beginning of the summer.
Sometimes individuals, families, and organizations try to fix their lives like I have been trying to fix my mowers. What they should have done from the start is change the core. The heart of the matter is the matter of the heart. Some scriptures to reflect on:
Ps 51:10
Create a pure heart in me, O God, and put a new and loyal spirit in me.
Eze 11:19
I will give them a new heart and a new mind. I will take away their stubborn heart of stone and will give them an obedient heart.
Eze 36:26
I will give you a new heart and a new mind. I will take away your stubborn heart of stone and give you an obedient heart.
I believe the base for resilient living is spirituality which is a constant awareness of the presence of God. We draw on this presence for our strength, guidance, and empowerment. If you do not have a walk with God, a good place to begin is by reading the book of John which is in the New Testament part of the Bible.
Are you ready for a new heart? Are you ready to grow?
