Last night I watched the debates of the Democrat Candidate's for President. Listening with an open mind (to the best of my ability), after the debate I felt like the caveman on the Geico commercial when he is debating the psychologist on a TV news program: "What?"
One of the stranger than fiction moments of the debate was when each candidate commented on the Supreme Court's decision not to allow race to become a determining factor in regards to where a child goes to school. Inferring from some of the remarks concerning the judges of the majority opinion, I thought maybe some of the judges must have worn white robes instead of black. The lack of honest in politics once again show up. "Turning back the clock," seemed to be the expression that garnered the most support from the predominately black audience at Howard University.
There were many promises given, but no solutions from the candidates regarding the problems of the inner city. The "white" elephant in the room was the Latino community. The demographics in this country are changing dramatically, yet it was virtually ignored (unless it was at the end, which I was unable to watch).
It is my opinion that race is no longer the issue, and it hasn't been for quite some time. The issue is class. The disparity is between the haves and the have nots, not black and white. In recent years, no one has held back any race from becoming successful in this country. There are too many examples of successful men and women of all races. Also, many of the suburban schools in this country are examples of natural integration.
There is much more to write about on this subject, however, the garage door man is about to arrive to give me an estimate. What is your opinion?
