For the past few weeks, I have been going to the Church of the Second Chance. Terry, my sister, has been inviting me for several months, but I just kept putting it off. She kept extolling that it is one of her favorites. Yet, for some reason it just didn't capture my interest. Terry kept asking me, and I decided to move forward. I made it past the lobby, met some of the members, and became active very quickly. I am glad that I did.
Rev. Emmett is the preacher. The richness and warmth of his baritone voice is a reflection of his kind and gentle heart. He preaches a message of grace and forgiveness and hope. As I looked around the church, it dawned on me that the congregates were not there because of church programs or savvy marketing. These people accepted an invitation of love.
After the service, Ian and Rita Bedloe invited me over for lunch. Ian reminded me of Jimmy Stewart and Rita looked a lot like Rita Coolidge. I fell in love with them immediately. He said he thought of himself as a Saint Maybe. This was a home where grace was definitely in place.
If you have not been to the Church of the Second Chance, consider this your invitation. Once you have been there, you won't want to go anywhere else.
