Have you ever told someone besides a spouse, family member, or special friend that you loved them? A friend I worked with for about a year often told me that he loved me. He would give me a hug, hug Phyllis and the kids, and let us know that he loved us. Few people have ever told me this. My life was blessed richly by my friend sharing this with me.
I suspect we don't say to each other in most environments, "I love you!" What would happen if we did and genuinely meant it? Even in spiritual gatherings, I don't think that many people share this with each other. Try it. You might be surprised by the response you get.
Growing up, I don't remember hearing "I love you" from my parents. That is not at all unusual for those in my "generation." I hope this is changing. I tell my kids that I love them all the time. I want them to know, without a doubt, that they are loved.
