Journey to Authenticity

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11

For those of us who were not parented by our birth parents, the journey to authenticity may be a challenging one. On occasions, I have wondered how different my life would have been if I had been raised by my birth father and mother. Like all adoptees or foster children, I had no choice in the matter. However, I can be the person that I was born to be. Another way I like to think about this is by asking this question: "What would I be like if I had not experienced any loss, abandonment, abuse, or rejection in my life?" Of course, part of the plan may have been to have these experiences.
