Resurrection Power

This morning as a part of the worship service we took communion while watching scenes of the Passion. It was the first time I had seen clips from the movie since before Christmas. As we partook of the "body and blood" of Jesus, we watched as his body was broken and his blood flowed. I appreciate the movie because of what it has done for my understanding of what actually happened. Of course I have read the text many times and read commentaries describing the crucifixion. However, there is just something about seeing someone's interpretation of what Jesus went through. The word that comes to mind is - brutal.

The death, burial and resurrection of Christ is an amazing testimony of power. Jesus emptied himself of his power in order that the power of God might be displayed through his life. The resurrection is the story of the powerful becoming powerless to become empowered to conquer death in order that the powerless can become empowered.

"Jesus is Risen" is more than an Easter slogan. It is the quintessential demonstration of God's power.
