September 11, 2004

Today is a national memorial day of contemporary loss. Three years ago many lost their husbands and wives, fathers and mothers, sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, grandfathers and grandmothers, grandsons and granddaughters, uncles and aunts, nephews and nieces, cousins, in-laws, boyfriends and girlfriends, friends and neighbors. This day triggers the pain of all who have lost loved ones.

Today, I especially remember my friend and life coach, Dean Moore. We knew each other through telephone conversations when we were "buddy coaches" while taking life coach training. We had the opportunity to physically meet in 2002. I was working in the Washington DC area, and Dean was attending a conference for psychologists. This training was to prepare physiologist to work with victims in case another 9/11 occurred. The main topic was working with those who were suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Ironically, a few months later, Dean was guiding me through the turbulent waters of PTSD. A friend died while we were cycling. My life saving efforts and those of my fellow cyclists and rescue workers could not overcome the affects of Ken's congenital heart condition. Dean helped me work through the affects of PTSD. This trauma triggered early childhood trauma. It was very apparent that I had not really worked through losing my own father when I was three, and the affects of an abusive childhood. If only I could have helped Dean overcome brain cancer. I really miss Dean.

Living "A CORE Life" helps us to work through the tragedy of loss. Centering our mind and heart in the palms of a loving Father God is a balm to wounded souls. Remember the beautiful words of Psalms 46:

God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear,
though the earth should change,
though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea;
though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble with its tumult.
There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy habitation of the Most High.
God is in the midst of the city;
it shall not be moved;
God will help it when the morning dawns.

The nations are in an uproar,
the kingdoms totter;
he utters his voice,
the earth melts.
The Lord of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our refuge.
Come, behold the works of the Lord;
see what desolations he has brought on the earth.
He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
he breaks the bow, and shatters the spear;
he burns the shields with fire.
"Be still, and know that I am God!
I am exalted among the nations,
I am exalted in the earth."
The Lord of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our refuge.

Peace and Love,

David
