Eric Erikson was a student of Sigmund Freud. Erikson's theory of personality development grew out of Freud's psychoanalytic theory. Erikson's theories were based on social interaction compared to Freud's theories which were derived from instinctual desires. Hopefully, that is enough background to make my point, especially for a blog. This is my point: when stuff happens to us in childhood, it is vital to observe the event in the life span context. This helps us understand what is going on in the inner world of the child, which may help to explain some of our thoughts and behaviors as adults.
I pose this question to Drs. Freud and Erickson, "How was I psychologically affected by the loss of my father?" To be continued...
